Universidad MadridUniversidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) is the oldest and the largest Technical University in Spain. UPM’s schools focus their knowledge on most of the Engineering disciplines, and have a strong commitment to R&D and Innovation. With an approximate total annual budget of €400 M, UPM receives over €130 M annually to support research activities through external sources. UPM participates in OPTICITIES through the “Visual Telecommunication Applications Group” (UPM-G@TV), whose research and lecturing activity is performed at the Telecommunication Engineering School. UPM-G@TV has experience in digital signal processing, communication and decision support tools, and is involved in several standardization activities related with “Road Transport and Traffic Telematics” and “Intelligent Transport Systems” (CEN TC278 WG1, ISO TC204 WG5). Experience in FP7 projects: FOTsis (European Field Operational Test on Safe, Intelligent and Sustainable Road Operation), DATA SIM, DECOMOBIL (Design for ECO-multimodal MOBILity), AWISSENET (Ad-hoc Wireless Sensor Secure Network), XiFi (Experimental Infrastructures for the Future Internet), among other; and FP6 NoE HUMANIST (Human centred design for Information Society Technologies).

Role In The Project

UPM plays a role in Quality & Risk Management, Data Specification, Technology Monitoring, Tools Development, Database usability & accessibility, Evaluation and Impact assessment, implications for Transport System, publications, liaison with ongoing projects, and standardisation activities. UPM is the OPTICITIES Technical Coordinator.

WP involvement:

  • WP2 - Open ITS Systems (Leader: UPM)
  • WP10 - Technical Coordination (Leader: UPM)
  • WP8 - Dissemination

Key contributions

UPM is the Task 2.1 Leader collaborating with the rest of partners in the design of a standardised Multimodal Dataset model. UPM is also participant of Task 2.2 and Task 2.3, giving support in the design of the OPTICITIES Urban Mobility Portal, architecture design and interfaces definition. UPM will also contribute with scientific/technical publications in national and European congresses (ITS World Congress, ITS Europe, IEEE sponsored ones) as well as in different standardisation groups CEN/ISO. As OPTICITIES Technical Coordinator, UPM will ensure that the objectives and goals of the project are met with the maximum efficiency and guaranteeing the soundness of the project results.
